You can go out to the nicest restaurants and try authentic paellas or perhaps learn to cook them by yourself. Impress your friends and enjoy paella in true Valencian style by simply remembering these easy-to-follow tips:
There is no place for chorizo in a paella!
Paella is a lunchtime meal. Only tourists will be found eating paella at night.
Paella is the name of the flat pan on which the rice is cooked as well as the dish itself.
Although everybody can learn how to cook a paella, it is considered a masculine dish. Like American men enjoy manning the barbeque, similarly the Spanish male takes pride in producing a mouthwatering paella.
Patience plays an important role during cooking or waiting to eat paella. If the paella you've ordered at a restaurant arrives too quickly, that may mean it was precooked and only reheated. Cooking a proper paella takes time; you should allow at least 25 minutes. Many restaurants will ask you to pre-order your paella when you book, to make sure it is ready in time for your meal.
Paellas are best cooked outdoors, over a wood fire.
The thinner the layer of rice, the tastier the end result.
The true colour of paella should be a rich gold provided by the addition of saffron. If you see bright yellow rice, that points to the use of artificial colouring.
